Meta-cresol, also known as meta-methylphenol, is usually a colorless or light yellow liquid at room temperature, with a meta-cresol odor. It is slightly soluble in water and soluble in solvents such as ethanol, ether, and sodium hydroxide. Meta-cresol is an important chemical intermediate, and its production processes include extraction methods and synthesis methods. Currently, the main production processes for meta-cresol in China are the crude phenol extraction method and the toluene chlorination hydrolysis synthesis method.

Currently, there are methods to extract a small amount of palladium and platinum from solutions containing a large amount of rhodium waste. The recovery and purification of rhodium can effectively extract palladium from rhodium electrolytic solutions, but there have been no reports on the purification rate of rhodium and the absorption rate of palladium. Research has found that if activated carbon is not boiled and oxidized with concentrated nitric acid, the purification rates of platinum and palladium are low, and some rhodium is also purified. Experiments conducted in some copper plants have proven that the direct recovery rate of palladium is only about 70%, and the working conditions are also poor.

The total investment for the construction project of 18,800 tons of high-purity para-cresol per year is 468 million yuan. Once completed, it will achieve an annual production capacity of 18,800 tons of high-purity para-cresol, 600 tons of ortho-cresol, 600 tons of phenol, 40,500 tons of crude sodium bisulfite, and 8,500 tons of toluenesulfonic acid liquid.
